NFPI calls on Congress to scrap corn ethanol mandate and protect pizza makers, consumers
The National Frozen Pizza Institute recently sent an open letter to every member of the United States Congress urging them to eliminate the corn ethanol Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). Nearly 40 percent of the nation's corn supply is diverted to produce fuel, rather than food, in order to meet the RFS mandate for corn-based fuel. As a result, the price of corn, and many other commodities, can be subject to volatile price fluctuations hurting frozen pizza maker, their suppliers, and grocery shoppers. The letter was also published as a full-page advertisement in the Dec. 10 edition of Politico, one of the most widely read publications by decision makers on Capitol Hill and federal agencies.
The National Frozen Pizza Institute is dedicated to fostering increased awareness amongst policymakers and the public about the many nutritional and economic benefits offered by frozen pizza.
